The verbs are grouped by ending: -ar, -er, -ir rather than alphabetically or by frequency rank. That's a deliberate choice: grouping by ending is what actually shows you the conjugation pattern, since every verb in a group inflects the same way. Once you see falar conjugated, you can predict trabalhar or estudar without re-learning the pattern. An alphabetical list would be easier to scan but would hide that logic completely.

What repeats across every verb entry is the structure: six persons (eu, tu, ele/ela/você, nós, vós, eles/elas/vocês), same layout, same order. What changes is only the verb itself, and, for the irregular ones, the stem breaking from the pattern the regular verbs just taught you. That contrast is the point: seeing a regular verb next to an irregular one in the same layout makes the irregularity obvious instead of just another row to memorize.

This template fits a fairly specific person: someone who wants a reference sheet, not a workbook, a learner using Duolingo, a course, or self-study who needs a fast lookup instead of exercises to complete. It's also built with the CIPLE A2 exam in mind, so it's a natural fit for anyone preparing for that specific certification. It's a weaker fit if you're a total beginner who hasn't learned any Portuguese pronouns yet (you'll want an intro course first) or if you're past A2 and need less common tenses and verbs; the scope here is intentionally the 25 highest-frequency verbs, not a full reference grammar.

Compared to other language products in the shop, this one is narrower on purpose. Our Portuguese Language Learning Planner is a full study template with tracking and goals; this is a single reference page you keep open or pinned up. And unlike the Spanish Verbs Conjugation Template, which mirrors this same layout for a different language, this one is built specifically around European Portuguese conjugation patterns and CIPLE exam vocabulary, not the Brazilian variant.

The one non-obvious decision here is keeping it to a single page. Most conjugation charts spread across multiple tenses and pages, this one deliberately covers only the present tense, on the logic that a learner needs one tense mastered cold before the next one is worth adding, and a single page is what actually gets printed, pinned up, and looked at daily.

  • Instant digital download. Your files are available to download as soon as payment is confirmed, so you can start studying right away; instant download items don't accept returns, exchanges, or cancellations.
  • Editable in Canva and PDF.
  • 25 most common European Portuguese verbs. Grouped by ending, -ar, -er, -ir.
  • All six grammatical persons covered.
  • A4, single-page format.
  • Built with the CIPLE A2 exam in mind. Covers the present-tense verbs and patterns most relevant to that level.
  • The 25 verbs that come up in nearly every conversation are already on it, grouped by ending, so the lookup takes seconds.
  • Because -ar, -er, and -ir verbs share a layout, spotting where ser or estar deviates from the regular pattern is not a separate memorization task. That's the moment this actually pays off, not on day one, but a few weeks in, when you stop pausing mid-sentence to work out an ending and just say it.
  • Add a verb, tweak the layout, or drop in your own example sentences in Canva, the base structure is already built.

A few of the 25 verbs you'll master:

  • Ser / Estar - to be (permanent / temporary)
  • Querer - to want
  • Precisar - to need
  • Gostar (de) - to like

...plus 21 more, each fully conjugated in every person.

What is a Portuguese Verbs Conjugation Template?

A Portuguese verbs conjugation template is a study reference built to adapt to your level, whether you're just starting out or reviewing before the CIPLE exam.

It lets you see how the language actually works before you're thrown into a real conversation, makes it easier to track which patterns you've already got down and which ones still trip you up, and works as a quick reference you can lean on during study sessions, conversation practice, or exam prep.

The main functions of the template are: reference and practice.

Studying for the CIPLE exam

Preparing for the CIPLE A2 exam usually means narrowing down what actually matters from a much larger grammar syllabus. This template supports that directly: instead of a full reference grammar covering every tense and exception, it isolates the 25 highest-frequency present-tense verbs candidates are expected to know, grouped by ending so the underlying pattern stays visible. Used this way, exam prep becomes about recognizing patterns rather than memorizing 25 isolated verbs one at a time.

Learning Portuguese with Duolingo or a course

Apps and courses are good at introducing new vocabulary steadily, but they rarely give you one place to see every verb's full conjugation at once. Istead of scrolling back through old lessons to check how a verb behaves, you get a single reference page with all 25 verbs conjugated across all six persons. Used this way, the app stays the source of new material, and the chart becomes the place you go to actually lock it in.

Häufig gestellte Fragen

To conjugate regular -ar verbs in the present tense (presente do indicativo), remove the -ar ending to find the stem and add these endings: -o, -as, -a, -amos, -ais, -am. These verbs, such as trabalhar or falar, represent the largest and most common verb group in the Portuguese language.

Example: Trabalhar (To work)

  • Eu trabalho
  • Tu trabalhas
  • Ele/Ela/Você trabalha
  • Nós trabalhamos
  • Vós trabalhais
  • Eles/Elas/Vocês trabalham

To conjugate regular -ir verbs in the present tense, remove the -ir ending to find the stem and add the endings: -o, -es, -e, -imos, -is, -em. Note that the first-person singular (eu) and third-person plural (eles) endings are often identical to those in the -er group, but the "we" form (nós) uses the distinctive -imos ending.

Example: Abrir (To open)

  • Eu abro
  • Tu abres
  • Ele/Ela/Você abre
  • Nós abrimos
  • Vós abris
  • Eles/Elas/Vocês abrem

The primary difference is permanence: Ser is used for permanent or inherent characteristics (identity, profession, origin), while Estar is used for temporary states or locations (mood, health, current position). In Portuguese, choosing the correct "to be" is essential for conveying the intended meaning of a sentence.
