This resume template for students and first-time job seekers is made for people who are just starting their career and don't have much work experience to show yet. Instead of building the whole page around a job history, it highlights what you already have: your education, skills, projects and involvement.
The layout is based on the sections that matter most at the start of a career:
- Contact details
- Profile overview or career objective
- Education
- Skills
- Languages and certifications
- Projects
- Extracurricular activities and involvement
- Interests
Experience is optional
There is a professional experience section for an internship, part-time job or volunteer role, but you don't have to use it. If you are just starting your job search, delete it completely and give more space to another section, such as projects, education or skills.
How the page is organized
- Header: your name and field of study or target role on the left, and your contact details on the right (phone, email, LinkedIn and location), with a thin gray line separating the header from the content.
- Left column: short, quick-reference sections. Education, skills, languages, certifications and projects.
- Right column: the sections where you tell your story in more detail. Profile overview, professional experience (if you have it), and projects and involvement.
A thin vertical line runs between the two columns, so the page looks structured.
Every section comes with example text, so you can see what to write and how long each part should be. Replace the sample text with your own information in Canva. You can also change the fonts, colors and order of the sections.
The design uses clean typography, a lot of white space and standard section headings that recruiters and applicant tracking systems (ATS) are used to reading. It is made to get through ATS software and to look polished to the person who reads it next.
