English is the most widely spoken language in the world when you count both native and second-language speakers, and it's the default language of business, travel, and online communication for millions of learners. It's also a language where verb conjugation looks deceptively simple at first, then gets complicated fast with a handful of irregular verbs that don't follow any pattern at all.

This template splits verbs into regular and irregular because that grouping does real work. Seeing every regular verb conjugate the same predictable way, add "-s" for third person, no stem changes, makes the irregular verbs stand out for what they are: genuine exceptions, not just more lines to memorize among twenty-five similar-looking ones.

Three verbs get particular attention here: to be, to have, and to do. These aren't just irregular, they're verbs English relies on constantly as auxiliaries in questions, negatives, and other tenses, not just as standalone words. Putting them next to the regular verbs means a beginner learning English notices early that these three don't play by the same rules.

This chart fits a beginner working toward A1-A2 fluency who wants one page to check against instead of a grammar textbook chapter. It also works well for ESL and TEFL teachers building a quick handout or reference sheet for a lesson. It's a weaker fit past A2, once past tense, modal verbs, or a broader vocabulary become relevant, since the scope here is the 25 highest-frequency present-tense verbs, not a full grammar reference.

Compared to other verb charts in the shop, this one shares its regular/irregular split with our German Verbs List, rather than the ending-based grouping (-ar/-er/-ir) used for Spanish, French, and Portuguese. English verbs don't sort neatly by infinitive ending the way Romance-language verbs do, so grouping by regularity is the split that actually reflects where English's difficulty lives.

  • All six grammatical persons covered. I, you, he/she/it, we, you (plural), they, conjugated for every verb.
  • A4, single-page format.

Checking one page beats flipping through a grammar textbook. The 25 verbs that carry most of everyday English conversation are already there, split by regularity, so confirming how "to go" conjugates takes a second.

Once the standard third-person "-s" pattern is familiar from the regular verbs, an irregular verb like "to have" or "to do" stands out clearly as a deviation, not just another form to memorize cold.

Learning early that "to be," "to have," and "to do" behave differently prevents getting tripped up mid-sentence later. Since English uses these three constantly as auxiliaries, in questions, negatives, and other tenses, seeing them called out alongside the regular verbs means you're not caught off guard the first time "do" shows up somewhere that isn't a main verb.

The chart is already laid out and leveled for A1-A2, so prepping a lesson or a worksheet means handing over a page, not designing one.

What is an English Verb Conjugation Chart?

An English verb conjugation chart is a study reference that shows how common English verbs change form according to grammatical person and tense, typically organized to separate regular verbs from irregular ones so a learner can see conjugation patterns rather than looking each verb up individually.

A typical English verb conjugation chart includes:

  • Verbs grouped by regularity (regular vs. irregular)
  • Present-tense forms across all six grammatical persons
  • A mix of high-frequency, everyday verbs
  • A compact, single-page layout for fast lookup

The mistake that trips up most beginners

A common error comes from doubling up grammar that's already there: "did you went" instead of "did you go," because "did" already carries the past tense, so the main verb stays in its base form. The same logic applies to negatives and modals, "doesn't works" should be "doesn't work," and "can swims" should be "can swim." Once "to do" and modal verbs are recognized as carrying the grammar on their own, conjugating the main verb next to them gets a lot simpler, which is exactly why this chart puts "to do" front and center rather than treating it as just another irregular verb on the list.

Irregular verbs repeat more than they seem to

Irregular verbs feel overwhelming as a category, but many of them share the same pattern once you start noticing it, verbs like "sing/sang/sung" and "ring/rang/rung" follow the same vowel shift. Seeing a handful of irregular verbs conjugated side by side on one chart makes those repeating patterns easier to spot than memorizing each verb as a completely separate case.

Perguntas frequentes

Regular verbs follow a predictable pattern, adding "-s" for third person with no change to the stem. Irregular verbs, like to be, to have, and to do, break that pattern entirely and have to be learned individually rather than derived from a rule.

No. The scope is intentionally limited to present-tense conjugation for the 25 most common verbs. Past tense, modal verbs, and less common vocabulary fall outside this chart's focus.

Yes. Teachers and tutors can use it as a ready-made handout or reference sheet for a lesson, and it's editable in Canva if you want to adjust it for a specific class.
