Greek has been spoken continuously for over 3,000 years, and it's still the official language of Greece and Cyprus today, with the Greek alphabet also underpinning much of scientific and mathematical notation used worldwide. It's not a small or easy language to pick up, though, verbs split into two distinct conjugation groups with different stress patterns and endings, which is exactly the kind of thing that trips learners up early if it isn't laid out clearly from the start.

This template narrows that down to what actually matters first: the 25 most commonly used Greek verbs, the ones that carry most everyday speech and writing, conjugated in the present tense across both Group A and Group B patterns. Seeing both groups side by side on one page is what makes the split make sense, once you can compare how "γράφω" (to write) and "μιλάω" (to speak) behave differently, the pattern becomes something you recognize rather than something you have to look up every time.

The layout stays deliberately simple, one page, printable, editable in Canva if you want to add extra verbs, notes, or color-coding as you progress. It's built for a learner who wants to start forming real sentences quickly, not work through a grammar textbook chapter by chapter before getting there.

  • Instant digital download. Your files are available to download as soon as payment is confirmed, so you can start studying right away; instant download items don't accept returns, exchanges, or cancellations.
  • Editable in Canva and PDF.
  • 25 most common Greek verbs.
  • Both conjugation groups covered: Group A and Group B verbs.
  • A4, single-page format.

Mastering verbs is essential for building fluency in Greek, and this template lays out a clear conjugation table for the 25 most common, high-frequency verbs. Seeing both conjugation groups side by side makes the patterns easier to recognize, so present tense forms click faster instead of being memorized one verb at a time.

All 25 verbs come pre-conjugated in the present tense, so there's no study guide to build from scratch. The Canva version stays editable too, add other tenses or additional verbs once you're ready to go beyond the basics.

Practicing the same chart regularly makes it easy to test yourself and see how much has actually stuck. Since it's editable, extra subgroups or personal notes can be added over time, turning it into a reference that grows alongside your own progress.

The list of the Greek verbs includes:

  • Είμαι (Eímai) - To be
  • Έχω (Écho) - To have
  • Πάω (Páo) - To go

Why verb groups matter in Greek

Unlike languages with one regular conjugation pattern and a handful of exceptions, Greek splits its verbs into two main groups from the start, based on whether the ending is stressed or not. Learning a verb without knowing which group it belongs to usually means getting the ending wrong, which is why grouping verbs by pattern, rather than listing them alphabetically or by meaning, tends to make conjugation click faster.

Building vocabulary through high-frequency verbs

Not all verbs are worth learning at the same pace. A small set of high-frequency verbs, to be, to have, to want, to know, to say, shows up constantly across everyday conversation, far more often than more specific vocabulary does. Focusing on these first means every study session pays off immediately in real conversations, rather than sitting unused until a more advanced topic comes up.

Veelgestelde vragen

Group A verbs are those where the ending of the 1st person singular is unstressed, such as βλέπω (I see) or γράφω (I write). To conjugate these in the present tense, remove the -ω from the stem and add: -ω, -εις, -ει, -ουμε, -ετε, -ουν.

Group B verbs are those where the ending of the 1st person singular is stressed, split into Type 1 (-άω or -ώ) and Type 2 (-ώ). For Type 1, like μιλάω (I speak), remove the -άω and add: -άω, -άς, -άει, -άμε, -άτε, -άν(ε).

It works best with at least basic familiarity with the Greek alphabet and pronouns. A total beginner will get more out of it after an introductory lesson or two, since the chart focuses on conjugation patterns rather than teaching the alphabet.
